Initial visual explorations and streamlining
Make Out Loud ♪ coding ♪ design
Taking a break from code and information architecture to do some visuals and brand stuff. I set off on my typical process, which was to wander around and look at things. The point here is to throw a bunch of ideas into the hopper and see what connects and inspires me conceptually.
It’s been a while since I’ve done pure brand or visual work, but this was my bread and butter for many years. Unfortunately most of my inspiration sites have been closed down, or overrun by AI. Admittedly I was too lazy to sign into Behance, but I might do that later.
I started thinking about the concept of ‘making out loud’, which led me to records. This was an absolutely delightful rabbit hole. Just look at that vinyl!!
The round shape made me think of each of these projects as records on a wall, or like, discrete objects. Which led me to thinking about biospheres, and planets (big boi biosphere). I think there’s something here in this contained spherical/circular objects, so I’ll explore that more thoroughly at some point.
I need to say in a very quiet voice that I did poke around some graphic design inspiration sites for fresh visuals, and while it felt excellently crafted, it did not really resonate with a lot of what was presented (please don’t come for me I’m so sorry lol!!!). I will try again later.
Because this is a project all about DIY, I am giving myself a little budget for a typeface. Something kinda funky for display type. I’d like an indie typographer to get my money ~ ~ Typefaces are not cheap, but they are an intense amount of work.
I’ll eventually make use of this, but I want to finish up some exploration first. In the meantime, I’m changing typefaces and cleaning up some elements and colors.
