The perfect vanilla sock

Vanilla Sock knitting

I want to be the type of knitter who knits socks. They’re the perfect on the go project, and they come together quickly—in theory. It also makes the perfect souvenir or treat skein, as it only requires a single ball of yarn, and is the type of thing you can be adventurous with color-wise.

I have knitted two pairs of socks to date. Both have a fair number of fit problems, including one of them having two differently sized socks due entirely to a counting error! The other, I did the heel completely wrong. They both function as socks and I do wear them. Only, I think I’d wear hand knit socks more often if I had more of them to wear!

Having a set vanilla sock recipe feels like a major knitting milestone. Custom designed to my particular foot, easy to cast on and go, a nice breather between long garments.

I imagine this will take me a few pairs to get right, so I will be finally using some of my Cool Sock Yarn and filling my closet properly with cozy knit socks this year. Envisioning each of the posts here to be a new pair of socks, with any learnings.

So far:
