Half plied

Airport Spin spinning

two complete plies of this wacky spin

My last project was a tweed spin, and while the result is everything I wanted, the spin itself was a bit of a pain. I had to stop constantly to wiggle the colorful rainbow neps into position. Spinning straight up Corriedale is so fast. Though, the purple is a bit less well combed than the other colors, and needs some finagling at times.

I can complete a single pretty fast, and I’m hoping to be done plying this yarn before the month is up. Particularly on the ply with the shorter run, it’s very satisfying to finish a color and switch to the next one. It always takes me ages to then wash the yarn, which will ‘set the twist’. Let’s see if I can do that right after I finish this time…

I’m a little concerned the second bobbin appears much smaller. I’m hoping it’s not primarily from consistency issues, and more from my splitting of the fiber being a bit less exact. The advantage to doing all of the singles first and plying all at once is the opportunity to re-pair the bobbins if necessary. I don’t know. Maybe the next round will be even chonkier!!?
